CANON:

CANON HISTORY: wiki-link!
CANON PERSONALITY: Allura carries the weight of the universe on her shoulders. Though the heyday of the war is long ago, thanks to the fact that she slept most of it away, she still feels it as acutely as if it were last week. As such, her actions are almost always guided with that in mind. Would this help restore the universe? Will this be a setback for Emperor Zarkon, and help her avenge her lost planet and her father?

These feelings and questions are always in the back of Allura's mind, even though she is outwardly cheerful and friendly to most new people she meets. She does become openly suspicious, but is more inclined towards cheer if she feels that she has the backup she needs, should a situation go badly.

After all, her home planet is gone. The known universe is almost entirely conquered by her sworn enemy, and the only support she has are an ever faithful servant, and five very green paladins for the lions that form Voltron. She also has to constantly resist her castle-ship and her lions from being stolen due to missteps or carelessness on her part. It makes it a bit hard to cut loose and relax.

Which, of course, she does, sometimes! Allura has a strong inquisitive and playful nature. She instigates food fights with her paladins, gossips with her mice friends, and playfully attempts to get Pidge to confess that she's actually a girl. And her interactions with Lance are enough to show that she knows how to take a joke. (Because, honestly, sometimes Lance is one.)

She also finds prolonged and elaborate displays of emotion awkward, and prefers to cut them off as soon as possible. (The only exception so far has been when cutting off said display would have meant an entire species throwing itself into a suicide pyre. In that case, she'll take the elaborate apology dance.) She isn't very sarcastic, but she does call out strange behavior readily, and she's quite excellent at throwing shade or giving side eye.

But Allura's strongest trait is her refusal to give up. That, combined with her sense of guilt and grief makes for a rash actor when push comes to shove. She wants to help all of those people that she failed to protect from Zarkon during her time asleep. This also contrasts her from her father, who believed in tactical retreats, while she would have insisted on fighting. It is because of this disagreement that her father put her to sleep in the first place.

She is keenly aware of the odds not being ever in her favor, and at first tries to emulate her father, but it takes only a small word of encouragement from the AI of his being to make her pursue the course that felt more natural to her: fight Zarkon. Everything she has done, ultimately, has been to undermine him.

She drove the new lion paladins to practically hate her by nitpicking their practice and training, and even their traits as humans. This ultimately culminated in the food fight... and their figuring out how to work as a team and form Voltron. She knew that they needed a common enemy to figure it out, and decided she was a safer enemy than Zarkon. Unfortunately, the same doesn't go in reverse. Allura's hyper awareness of Zarkon's betrayal has cast a shadow over how she views all Galra, ultimately blinding her to potential allies among them.

She pursues peace missions, connecting with native species in order to spread good will. Even against the better advice of her paladins, she prefers to act in good faith, even after it almost costs her everything due to the cunning of her enemies. She refuses to give up on a people who were about to lose their home due to the planet (or in this case, a fossilized, planet-sized creature) dying. Instead, she chooses to nearly sacrifice herself to save the planet.

She refuses to be sidelined on secret missions, accompanying the paladins where possible to learn more about the new empire that Zarkon has built. She ultimately sacrifices herself to protect Shiro from being captured once more by Zarkon.

And, ultimately, protecting the universe and her ship ends up costing her her final connection to both her homeworld and her father. She chooses duty over sentimentality, and destroys the AI of her father in order to save everyone from a star about to go supernova. She had derived a lot of joy from the projections of Altean fields and being in her father's company, but she knew all hope would truly be lost if she didn't destroy the source of the corruption in the castle's computers.

Allura is a relatively young princess, mentally. And when she is allowed to be, she is a kind and happy person. But when push comes to shove, she will put her duty above everything else.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Chameleon-like, Allura is able to make herself the same color and size of any species. She states that this ability had made Alteans great diplomats and explorers in the past.
Tactical genius, Allura is able to read a battle situation quickly and to provide tactical input to her paladins.
Computer skills, while she isn't a hacker like Pidge, Allura is more than adept at maneuvering around complicated computer systems.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Allura de la Cruz
AU AGE: 17
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Well, her iris is a normal black for one, instead of pink like it is in the show. She does not have the markings beneath her eyes, nor does she have her elf-like ears.

Her hair is more of a platinum blond, instead of a pure white, as well.

Otherwise, she looks very similar.

AU HISTORY: Allura's father made some smart bets when it came to real-estate in her native Australia. He was able to turn a quick profit, which led to even more bets on real estate in various countries, including the US and Recollé. after a successful deal on a new condo and shopping center, her father packed the family up and moved to Recollé to help turn his ambitious bet on a community revitalization into a reality.

Allura didn't want to leave her friends behind, but she came with him. He's been grooming her to take over the family business, and he's been trying to impart his real estate knowledge on her. She's used his business dealings to help raise money for causes she cares about, notably animal rights. She is very active with local shelters, and donates as much money as her father will let her.

It's about the only thing she has going for her for right now, since she has very little in the way of friends in this relatively new city.

Her mother is rather absent from her life, instead focusing on her non-profit work, while her father is constantly jetting off from country to country to take care of his growing empire. And Allura has no siblings to help deal with being left behind by both parents. Which is unfortunate, because they are new money, and so she looks to the Kardashians as models on how to deal with that newfound fortune.

Unfortunately for her, her personality has happened to turn off a few of Recollé's rich and famous. But, c'est la vie.
AU PERSONALITY: Where in canon, Allura keeps her worst impulses (mostly) to herself, she has no such compunction in Recollé. She misses her father when he's (often) gone, and she doesn't have the weight of an intergalactic war to force her to buck up. So, she tends to be moody and snappish at people around her.

However, when people relate to her on her pet causes, she's quickly as bright as she is in canon. She will happily be less of a brat if you'll hear her out on this measure going before the council-- et cetera. She has a soft spot for animals, as she considers them easy companionship when she's desperately lonely. Though she doesn't have permission to have any (yet)!

Like in canon, her dedication to her causes is complete. She hates the Galra in her real life, and in Recollé she is That Kind of vegan. You know the kind, everyone knows the kind. She tries to refrain from commenting if she knows they will volunteer at the local shelter, and also support humane treatment of animals, but it is really hard to bite her cheek on that one.

Finally, in canon, Allura is a princess and therefore has a strong sense of duty. Moreover, her cultural heritage is rich and open, giving her pretty strict boundaries for how she should act as a princess. In Recollé, she is new money. She knows roughly what rich people should act like, based on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and sometimes based on what Kate Middleton is doing. Those boundaries about what is appropriate and right just don't exist in the same way they do in canon, and thus she has a much larger penchant for being judge-y of not using or having the best. She's more prone to brattish behavior and major outbursts or "clapbacks."

While she can be as nice and welcoming as her canon counterpart, that really isn't Allura's default setting anymore.
